The first company was established by Charles Swinton. Charles Swinton took over a saw mill that was previously owned by the Wainwright family. It was then that Beekman became known as the Tutoring School.Tutoring for many years was mainly related to teaching with the primary focus being the arts. Most of the original company have passed on the business and as a result Beekman is now run by a board of trustees, which consist of representatives from all the original four companies.
